Here are some commonly asked questions - complete with answers.
Checkin is usually 5:00 pm and checkout is around 2:30 pm (after lunch). Early checkins/late checkouts are $10/person (this will depend on the departure and arrival of other camps). When you arrive at Chosen Valley, please report to the Office first - you will be given important health and safety instructions for the site and other useful information.
Yes, there are coin-operated washing machines and dryers available (costs - $2/load for the washing machine and $3/load for the dryer – please bring coins).
Chosen Valley can comfortably accommodate up to 200 people - the Main Camp can accommodate up to 139 people and the Monavale Cottages can accommodate up to 42 people (including the new wooden chalets). For larger groups, we also have bush huts, tent sites, as well as extra accommodation space in the Chapel, etc.
The deposit is non-refundable - please refer to the Terms and Conditions, ‘Cancellations’. Under special circumstances, a part refund of the deposit may be made at the discretion of the Manager.
Although the Main Camp is fully catered, self-catering is available during long weekends and also during the winter months (June, July, August). At other times, self-catering is at the discretion of the Manager. There is a charge for self-catering – please ask the staff when booking for further information. Please ask for the Self-catering Sheet, which gives information on what is provided and what you need to bring.
Breakfast @ 8:00 am, Lunch @ 12:30 pm and Dinner @ 6:00 pm – please feel free to discuss your mealtimes with Chef.
Chosen Valley does not provide morning and afternoon teas – you are welcome to bring snacks with you for morning and afternoon teas, as well as supper. Please request a sample menu – you are welcome to make suggestions, however, there may be an extra charge.
There are four Monavale Cottages located a short walk from the Main Camp. Each Cottage has two bedrooms – one with two single beds and the other has one single bed and two bunk beds. Extra accommodation is provided in two wooden chalets (sleeping up to 7 in each), with access to the facilities of the Cottages. Bring your own bedding or linen is available for hire @ $10/person. The Cottages are self-catering and Cottage 4 has a full kitchen – there is also a meeting room (between Cottages 3 and 4) where you can gather for meals, etc.
Equipment in the Chapel includes a fixed projector – you will need to provide your own laptop with a ‘blue’ VGA cable (not HDMI). There is also a speaker and a keyboard (no piano). In the Main Building, there is a screen in the dining room/lounge area – bring your own HDMI cord for the projector and screen. There isn’t a projector or screen in the meeting room in the Monavale Cottage area – please talk to our staff to arrange to use the equipment in the Chapel or the Main Camp facilities. There are no TV/DVD players at Chosen Valley.
Yes, you are able to have a campfire and set off your fireworks – please bear in mind our noise curfew of 10:30 pm. During the summer months, please check with staff to ensure that Chosen Valley has a valid fire permit (note that from time to time, these may be suspended by the NZ Fire Service due to fire weather conditions).
Adults in your group are trained to supervise the activities – prior to your arrival at Chosen Valley you will be sent an Activity Training Manual – please note the strong recommendation to designate Activity Supervisors before the training. The activity training takes about 60 minutes for the flying fox and up to 45 minutes for the rest of the activities. The cost is $10/person for the first day and then $6/person/day – this includes the use of ALL of the activities. Please note that the supervised activities are not suitable for pre-schoolers (the kids’ playground is for 12 years and under).
Yes, wifi and internet are available at Chosen Valley – however, due to our rural location it can be patchy - ask our staff for further details.
